On the main road east between Harare and Mutare, lies the village of Odzi. In Odzi, Hear Africa began its relationship with Gandidzanwa Primary School in 2010. Without an appropriate facility, farm buildings, chicken coops and even the shade under trees, were utilized as classrooms. Hear Africa, with funds raised in a partnership with Langley Fundamental Elementary School in 2012, facilitated the communities’ construction of two classroom blocks and a library. A third classroom block and a playground will be completed in March 2016. In addition to a physical space for learning, Hear Africa invested in books, textbooks, desks and teacher training. In the community surrounding the school, Hear Africa started a women’s sewing group, repaired the water supply, funds school fees and assists farmers to increase food security.
